Your liquid soap/fuel coloring style gets me every time! And I have no idea of how you do it, as it doesn't seem to be textures, since they really follow the form... Would you mind elaborating a little on it?
Sure! I do an underpainting with purely a hard round brush. After I have a nice smoothly rendered underpainting I'll use photoshop's gradient map filter to edit the colors so that certain value ranges have different colors than they did originally. After all that I'll manually paint in some more colors if I have to, and I'll use a combination of masking, layer effect (usually overlay, soft light, or multiply), and other filter techniques to achieve the final result. Does that make sense? I'm not the best at explaining, haha. Thanks!
Sorry for responding late! Thank you very much for the detailed rundown of your process, it's very appreciated and things seem a little less mysterious It however still looks magic! I'll have to try some of the techniques sometimes.
